Comments: Why I Love People.... or ...Life sure is Fun.

Judi,
i haven't been online for a bit of time because of a personal family matter and when i just finally got the strength to give it a go and get back online, i was surprised to read your generous post... thank-you and think nothing of it -- despite some of us being half way around the world or just around the corner, it never ceases to amaze me how the internet has managed to serve as a conduit to bring people together that might other wise have never met or stopped to wave hullo as they passed each other on the street they both happen to live on.

The art of letter writing has in some small way been brought back to the forefront with the advent of this technology and serves to prove that it's a small interconnected world after all!

What does btw mean? Were your ears itching a while ago Lisa? Tonight a young man in our meditation group asked how my blog was going. I told him about how you came to my aide. He said that it's true. You meet great people on the internet!

Judi, "btw" means, "by the way" as in,

btw Judi, how long have you been going to a meditation group?

funny you mentioned it, cuz i've actually been thinking of taking a meditation class, and am going to start looking for a good one around my 'hood here in Toronto. is it strictly meditation or is there any yoga involved?

Thanks Lisa, I’ve put the meaning of ‘btw’ on a post-it on my monitor.

To answer your question:
We have been going to meditation since the late eighties. I had been searching for a while, and always hoped I might find others that shared the same direction. By chance, the mom of one of Matt’s friend’s friends came to visit me when she heard that I was on crutches due to an injury. Something I said made her ask: “Do you believe that”? When I answered in the affirmative, she started to tell me about her Spiritual Mother and the group that met regularly each Friday night.

I couldn’t walk at that time, but I just about leapt over the table to ask “Can I come?”
She said that she would have to check, as the group was careful as to whom they invited.
We do not proselytize, and only those are invited to join us who are truly searching in the same direction. We want to protect the privacy of those who share and especially our Spiritual Mother.

But back to that time…. A few nights later two of the men from our group came over with my friend to talk with Pete and me. It turned out that Pete had once worked with the man who had opened his home for meditation. After a long and thoughtful discussion we were invited to join them on Friday nights.

It was many months before we were allowed to meet the woman we called Divine Mother. She came to LA about four times a year. When we did finally meet her, she talked to us both, and arranged to give us our Mantra. We had no idea that this was such a momentous occasion at the time.

It was. And, we have walked this path for many years since that time. Yoga exercise is not part of our practice but many do Yoga individually.
