Hate sells.

There is no doubt in my mind that all the vitriol directed at Hillary Clinton will be unleashed against Barack Obama if and when he wins the nomination. There is little fair and balanced news left in America.

We lost any real oversight of our airwaves when the Fairness Doctrine was overturned in the 1980s. This loss can be directly attributed to actions and the rhetoric of an actor who succeeded in becoming the 40th President of the United States.

It was that darling of the right, Ronald Reagan, who can be directly credited for the wave of deregulation that resulted in the collapse of our manufacturing might.

It was then, in the 1980s, that greed became our mantra, and we lost sight of what was really important in life. It was then, that the neo-conservatives began the worst scam in history.

Under the leadership of this very group of people, US businesses stopped reinvesting in their own companies. In the constant drive to satisfy those who only cared about what they called the ‘bottom line’, these shortsighted companies stopped using much or any of their resources to make better products.

Savvy investors got out early. A few people got very rich in a very short time. And in the end, America lost.

These days our airwaves are bought and sold like any other product to the highest bidder. And, nothing sells quite as well as hatred. We’ve seen nothing yet.
